Adult Family Home

Place My Care Senior Living Solutions is dedicated to providing exceptional care and support to seniors and their families. Our team of experienced professionals is committed to making sure your loved one is being cared for in a warm and welcoming environment.

Adult family homes (AFH) are residential-style homes that accommodate a maximum of twelve senior residents at one time. They’re also known as adult care homes (ACH), adult foster homes, or residential care. Some are built expressly for the purpose, while others are retrofitted from existing homes to make sure they meet Arizona state standards & requirements. As the name suggests, these adult family homes are made to replicate the comfort and environment of one’s own home.

Adult family homes have the most flexibility in the amount of care offered, based on need. Some specialize in memory care, others focus on developmental disabilities, and others are simply a comfortable place with some like-minded peers and a nurse to remind residents about their pills from time to time.

Assisted Living

Assisted living is a catch-all term for managed communities for fairly independent seniors. If a senior might need help with day-to-day tasks such as meal preparation or managing medication, but are otherwise healthy enough to function without dedicated medical care, assisted living might be the right choice.

Assisted living communities are typically arranged as large multi-family complexes where seniors have private rooms, suites, or full apartments to themselves, and have common areas and plenty of activities.

Assisted living comes from day-to-day care that would be too difficult, time-consuming, or even impossible to manage single-handedly for a senior. Hygiene, laundry, and chores are just a few areas they can get help with.

Continuing Care Retirement Community

Continuing Care Retirement Communities (CCRCs) are places where seniors can move to comfortably while they’re healthy, knowing that they’ll be able to stay even when their health needs change. The main benefit of such arrangements is that they are equipped for different levels of care from independent or retirement living all the way up to skilled nursing care. Seniors living there won’t have to move when their care needs change. It’s all about peace of mind, especially if seniors move in as a couple who will have different healthcare requirements in the future.

Typically, these are styled as apartment complexes that only senior residents can stay in, and sign a long-term agreement to secure their spot. Some more extravagant options might have larger accommodations, like townhouses, for each family. CCRCs include many nice amenities, such as home and yard maintenance, basic nursing assistance, and meal preparation.

In-Home Care

In-home care refers to senior care options that bring healthcare professionals into the homes of older people who need some help. The benefit is that the seniors get to stay in the comfort and familiarity of their own homes, but receive the assistance and/or medical care they need from a dedicated team. In-home care comes in two categories: home healthcare and in-home care.

What is Home Health Care?

Home health care is actual medical care provided in the senior’s home. Registered nurses and other medical staff visit three times per week to provide advanced medical care, including different types of therapy, managing diet, and handling medical equipment of all types. It’s important to note that of all the types of in-home care, home health care is the only one covered under Medicare, and often in-home care is still necessary for a senior to be able to fully live at home.

Senior Independent Living

Independent living is a lifestyle-based community for seniors who are in good health but would like to have similarly aged and likeminded peers to do things with. Sometimes, seniors opt for this type of housing because their house have recently become empty or too large to care for alone. Typically such communities are built as fairly standard apartments but restricted to residents over a certain age. Such communities could be joined with assisted living or more advanced care units too, allowing for an easier transition should the need arise.

In addition to the other residents, the benefits seniors get from this style of living are amenities and activities in close proximity. Depending on the community, features like golf courses, swimming pools, game rooms, movie theaters, and more are located onsite.

Memory Care

Memory care refers to all the forms of care that help seniors suffering from dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, and other progressive neurodegenerative disorders which make them prone to memory loss. This season of life can be one of the most difficult things for both a senior and their family to go through.

Memory care varies in its forms, from in-home care to assisted living communities and adult family homes. The key features are treatment for symptoms, therapy to retain as much cognitive function as possible, supervised family visits to help loving relationships continue, and safety. Seniors with memory loss are likely to wander and become lost, suffer from disorientation even in familiar places, or forget to handle certain important things like turning off stoves, water taps, or even vehicles.

Referrals for Memory Care

Due to the complex nature of this condition, seniors will require a memory care with a specialized memory care program. Though many communities have them, the quality varies widely. Our Senior Living Advisors are able to find care that’s perfect for your loved one’s needs and wants.

Skilled Nursing Facilities

Skilled nursing facilities are best described as transitional care options after hospitalization. Skilled Nursing is ideal in cases such as a senior suffering an injury from a bad fall, having a stroke, or needing treatment for a serious illness. Nursing facilities provide 24-hour monitoring and skilled care in the medium to long term. Once seniors have made a full recovery, they can safely be returned home or moved to a senior living community of some kind. Medicare usually helps cover the cost of skilled nursing facilities after proper hospitalization.
